Understanding Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain shows up as a sharp twinge when you reach overhead, a dull ache at night, or weakness that wrecks your workout. It disrupts training, performance, and sleep.

We help active adults figure out what’s actually limiting your shoulder — not just mask the pain. Then we build a clear, strength-focused plan so you can modify without stopping and get back to your goals.

Common Symptoms

  • Pain with overhead activities (presses, swimming, reaching)
  • Difficulty lifting, carrying, or performing overhead lifts
  • Weakness or loss of power in the arm
  • Clicking, catching, or a sense of instability in the shoulder
  • Night pain that wakes you or prevents comfortable sleep
  • Limited range of motion or stiffness that affects daily tasks

Common Causes

  • Rotator cuff tendinopathy or tear
  • Subacromial impingement or bursitis
  • Shoulder instability or labral irritation
  • Scapular muscle weakness or poor shoulder blade control
  • Overuse and movement pattern faults from sport or training
  • Adhesive capsulitis (stiff shoulder) or early arthritis
  • Nerve irritation referring pain to the shoulder

How We Treat Shoulder Pain

You deserve a plan that fits your sport and schedule. We don’t hand you a generic stretch sheet. We do a full 60-minute movement evaluation, find the limiting factors, then give you a 3-Phase Bulletproof Roadmap that keeps you training while you get stronger.

01

60-minute 1:1 Evaluation with a Doctor of PT

We take your history, watch you move in sport-relevant positions, review any imaging, and test strength, mobility, and motor control. This tells us the likely root causes and what must change for lasting load tolerance.

02

Individualized 3-Phase Bulletproof Roadmap

Phase 1: Reduce flare-ups and restore usable motion. Phase 2: Build capacity with progressive, sport-specific strength. Phase 3: Return-to-performance and prevention planning. Every phase has clear milestones so you know what to expect.

03

Strength-based, Movement-first Treatment

We prioritize progressive loading: rotator cuff and scapular control, kinetic chain integration (hip/core to arm), and overhead mechanics for deadlifts, presses, swimming, or dance. Strength fixes the tissue’s ability to handle stress.

04

Hands-on Care and Advanced Tools

Manual therapy, joint mobilization, and dry needling (when appropriate) speed initial progress and reduce pain so you can load the shoulder effectively. Dr. Sujaya uses precise hands-on skills to support movement retraining.

05

Modify, Don’t Stop

You keep training. We give loading and technique modifications so you maintain fitness and skill while healing. No blanket rest prescriptions—only targeted adjustments to protect and progress.

06

Coordination and Long-term Prevention

We work with your coach, surgeon, or primary care provider as needed. The goal is to leave you with a program that prevents recurrence and keeps you active for the next 10–20 years.

What to Expect

Why Conquer PT

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will it take to get better?

It varies by injury, training load, and your goals. We won’t promise a timeline. At your evaluation we set short-term milestones and reassess regularly so you can see real progress.

Do I need imaging like an MRI or X-ray?

Sometimes imaging helps. We review any scans you already have and may recommend imaging or a physician referral if it will change treatment. We never order tests without discussing why they matter.

Will I have to stop lifting or running?

Not usually. Our 'modify, don’t stop' approach gives specific adjustments so you maintain fitness while we rebuild the shoulder’s capacity. Full rest is rarely the best first step.

Do you treat rotator cuff tears or people who've had surgery?

Yes. We manage many rotator cuff issues and rehab post-op patients in coordination with surgeons. Your plan depends on tear size, symptoms, and surgical input when applicable.

How do I get started?

Personalized, one-to-one care with a clear roadmap for progress.
